Mother’s Day Special:

sharing the mental load, mayday!, And Mother’s Day

If you ever thought, “It’ll get easier when they get older,” think again.

This Mother’s Day, we’re diving into the mental gymnastics of parenting—from toddler tantrums to college applications—and how sharing the load can be your saving grace.

I had no idea the senior year of high school might be my most intense parenting-wise yet. And I never could have made it through without my parenting partner Mike (AKA my husband. Also AKA “my guy”).

Early on, job sharing (at work) taught us to let go of control, trust one another, and lean into our strengths for job sharing (at home) co-parenting. During college application season, Mike has been the Lead Parent and together, we’ve co-coached Iris through to her college decision!

In this episode, I share my personal journey of navigating the nail-biting college application process with my daughter, Iris, and how my husband, Mike (aka “my guy”), and I have learned to co-parent effectively by job sharing the mental load. We’ll explore practical ways to apply job sharing principles at home, especially during the chaotic month of May—I’ve affectionately dubbed “Mayday!” —filled with end-of-school activities, tests, and graduations.

Plus, we’ll uncover what moms really want for Mother’s Day (hint: it’s not flowers) and how everyone can pitch in to give Mom the gift of shared responsibility.

in episode 39, you’ll learn:

  • The concept of job sharing at home and how it can alleviate parental stress.
  • How my husband and I co-parented our daughter through the college application to acceptance process, perhaps as hands-on on toddler days!
  • What is Lead Parenting and how can this pitch-and-catch concept help me?
  • Strategies to manage “Mayday” madness—the end of school countdown!—with shared responsibilities
  • 4 stats on what moms truly desire for Mother’s Day (that might surprise you)
